Thierry Rabotin Shares Inspirations Behind His Fall ’16 Collection

Designer Thierry Rabotin produces his eponymous fashion-comfort line in Italy, but his French heritage shines through this fall.

“Paris is the city that most inspires me,” said Rabotin, who pays homage to the city through elegant jewel embellishments and man-tailored details. “It’s where I am recharged and reinvigorated.”

Below, he shares with FN a look at five of his fall influences:

1. “I’m very fond of Marlene Dietrich because she’s the very image of the double woman — cleverly combining Hollywood glamour and Parisian dandyism.”

2. “The Canal Saint-Martin area, where Paris youth meet in the evenings to eat, drink, laugh and philosophize was made famous in the 1938 movie, ‘Hotel Du Nord.’ ”

3. ‘There’s an aristocratic elegance to the Jardins du Palais-Royal, evident in my Mary Jane done on a sophisticated elongated last.”

4. “I was born in France in the 1950s. The period is inspirational to me, evidenced in my interpretation of the sartorial looks of the era.”

5. “Women have always admired things like the jewels worn by Marie Antoinette, [which] I’ve interpreted in 24-gold plated metal tassels and Swarovski crystal embellishments.”
