Shoe Designers Celebrate Spring In Tokyo

If you’ve checked out the Instagram accounts of Paul Andrew, Phillip Lim and Jerome Rousseau in the past few days, you’ve probably experienced a bit of travel envy.

The designers are part of the crowds visiting Japan right now to get an up close look at the famed cherry blossoms — and there’s no doubt they are picking plenty of inspiration.

“This was my first trip to Japan, and it exceeded my expectations in every possible way,” said Paul Andrew, who just returned to New York on Monday. “I enjoyed the experience so much that I am already planning my next visit! Everything from the cuisine, to the architecture, to the hospitality was utter perfection. The aesthetic attention is flawless and like nothing I have ever experienced. I could easily see myself living in Tokyo.”

Phillip Lim, meanwhile, is in Tokyo to celebrate his 10th anniversary with a special cherry blossom-installation in his store in the Aoyama district. Lim partnered with Japanese  artist Seijun Nishihata on the project.

Jerome Rousseau got a pleasant surprise when he landed in Tokyo. The designer’s Morier heels are on the cover of well-known retailer Isetan’s new in-store magazine.

Will we see a lot of Japanese-inspired collections come spring ’17? Stay tuned.
