With the holiday party season coming up, it’s time to put your best feet forward by planning your festive looks. But being both on-theme and chic doesn’t have to mean stilettos. Luckily, designers embraced the flat silhouette this season, adding holiday accents such as brocades, fur lining and crystal ornamentation.
A pointy flat with crystal embellishment will instantly elevate any look. (Paired with a black dress? No-brainer.) Manolo Blahnik’s crystal ankle-tie detail and Sarah Flint’s flat with ankle-wrap ribbon are especially elegant, while Paul Andrew’s Rhea flat in green satin strikes the right hue.
Mensy loafers can also be holiday-appropriate when done with new holiday motifs. Just be sure to look for elevated details — otherwise, it can look too plain. Weber Hodel Feder’s fur-lined penny loafer, in a deep green leather, is both cozy and luxe. Newbark’s supple loafer in two-tone red leather is an unexpected choice.

When forgoing heels, it’s important to consider your ready-to-wear hem lines to make sure the look is proportional. If you’re wearing flats with a skirt or dress, opt for a below-the-knee length to elongate the leg. If you’re wearing pants, allow a slight crop to show a bit of ankle.
