Who: For his spring ’17 collection, Alexander Wang fused moccasins fringe with a high-top sneaker in a slip-on construction. Chrome chain embellished the tops of uppers to differentiate these from earlier models of the hybrid style by brands such as Visvim and Giuseppe Zanotti.
What: Wang’s other proposition was to make the humble, beauty flip-flop cool enough for city streets. He did so by adding belts as ad-hoc ankle straps — some in leather, some (questionably) in clear acrylic (a trend repeatedly for spring, but just think of the blisters). The most successful versions came tricked out with rows of large paste stones and were a much easier sell.

Breaking news: But all of that will likely be quickly forgotten in the mayhem surrounding the designer’s surprise collaboration with Adidas, which closed out the show and had onlookers clamouring to check out the kicks. They will be released Sunday.
Bottom line: It appears the heat around sneakers won’t be dying down anytime soon, if Wang has any say in the matter.
