17 Ballerina-Inspired Shoes for the Holiday Season

The latest fall trend will have you channeling your inner “Black Swan.” But don’t worry — you don’t need serious pointe technique to wear these shoes.

Designers embraced ballerina-inspired details on footwear this season via ribbon wrap-tying and stretch constructions. While the traditional ballet flats made many appearances, new ideas — such as a ballerina block heel by the dancewear brand Repetto — are driving the market forward.

The key to pulling off the trend in the right way? Look for elegant finishes such as ribbon lacing, as well as rounded toe shapes. A stretchy glove upper, such as this style by Martiniano, feels fresh while channeling the classic ballerina vibe.

If flats are more your speed, try updating the ballerina flat with more maximal finishes (such as Rochas’ paillette embellishment, for instance). Or for a more experimental look: Comme des Garcons’ ballerina style reworks the iconic style by adding a pointier toe.
