Women’s Fall 2015 Trend: Buckled Shoes

From stilettos to boots, footwear labels are embracing buckles for fall ’15. The trend, which was a huge message in the menswear market last fall, has trickled down into the women’s market, with shoes featuring both dainty and clunky metal clasps.

Brands that went a more feminine route with the trend included Tamara Mellon, Christopher Kane and Gianvito Rossi, who all used buckles on stilettos. Mellon and Rossi used tiny buckles on leather pointy pumps. While Kane’s golden buckle was on the clunkier side, it was juxtaposed against the heel’s shimmering elastic bands.

On the more heavy duty side, brands like Rag & Bone, Laurence Dacade and Chloe mixed oversized buckles with metal studding. Footwear label Toga Pulla even used it on a sneaker, making use of four straps with silver Western-inspired clasps.

Whether your style reads as more girly or boyish, there’s a style for you—just remember that daintier buckles can be worn day or night, while clunkier styles should be reserved for a more casual context.
