There is an exhibit on right now at London’s Fashion & Textile Museum dedicated to the work of Thea Porter.
A London-based designer who was born in Israel, Porter helped pioneer a certain kind of globetrotter-luxe bohemian style in the 1960s and ’70s, dressing everyone from The Beatles to Barbara Streisand.
These days, the looks are collected by Kate Moss, who sat front row at Burberry today. To live music by Clare Maguire, the supermodel grooved in approval of Christopher Bailey‘s take on the heady heyday of Porter and her peers, Zandra Rhodes, Bill Gibb and Biba’s Barbara Hulanicki, whose influence was also felt.
In the email Bailey sent to the press after the show, he said the collection was called “Patchwork, Pattern & Prints,” leaving out one of the more obvious elements: Fringe with a capital F. It adorned many of the suede boot styles, after all, and was also applied to the signature house trench coat.
