‘Cinderella’ Burglar’s Missing Flip-Flops Lead to Home Robbery Arrest in Georgia

A viral crime has been solved this week, thanks to a forgotten pair of flip-flops.

Following a first-degree burglary, Alexia Nichole Martin was arrested in Coweta County, Georgia on Sept. 21. The 44-year-old was apprehended upon leaving a pair of flip-flops at a couple’s home she robbed, according to the Newman Times-Herald.

Martin’s crime was discovered when the aforementioned couple found Tide Pods on the floor, missing Hydrocodone pills and bags of food removed from the freezer on Sept. 10. One of the robber’s flip-flops was found in the home’s living room, while another was left at the house’s back door.

Suspicion towards Martin was notably raised when she had been at the couple’s home previously — an occasion where the same Hydrocodone pills were missing from their bathroom.

This was the second “Cinderella”-style burglary to take place in several years. In 2019, house burglar Curtis Officer left a “trainer” shoe at a Birmingham, United Kingdom home he robbed, which he was later arrested for with a four-year sentence on Oct. 29, according to the Birmingham Mail.

However, Martin’s robbery is also the latest shoe-related criminal act to take place in 2023. On Sept. 1, a man was robbed of a pair of Balenciaga shoes at a Shell gas station in Lawrenceville, Georgia, according to WSB-TV. The incident occurred when he’d originally arranged to purchase three pairs of shoes from a couple — including the aforementioned Balenciaga style — who then held him up at gunpoint, demanding he give them the Balenciaga shoes back after they were given $1,600 in cash for the footwear.
