Must Buy: Men’s Brogues For Spring

This spring, men’s brogues are reworked to appeal to a variety of tastes. Traditionally a classic dress style, the brogue has been transformed via new treatments, such as metallic finishes or metal studding in lieu of perforations.

Classic-minded brands, such as Church’s and Brunello Cucinelli, offer subtle updates, like colored leathers or mixed media, as seen in Cucinelli’s suede-and-denim style. Giorgio Armani and Paul Smith went unconventional, with mixed patterns or multicolored outsoles. And Saint Laurent replaced perforations with metal studs.

Fashion takes come in the form of Alexander McQueen’s metallic brogue, a shoe that’s bound to to stop traffic. Valentino’s version with a flatform sole is less flashy.

Affordable options, such as Aldo’s classic style or Cole Haan’s suede brogue, offer a dressy alternative to intimidating luxury prices.

The new way to wear the staple shoe? Don the brogue with denim, either crisp or distressed, for put-together weekend wear.

If you’re going the dressy route, stick with the brown or black leather styles, which add polish.
