Rain or shine, the newest Wellies and rubber boots capture the spring ’16 woman’s ready-for-anything attitude. Coupled with abbreviated outwear, the look is a new take on taking cover.
Classic rain brands offered sleek updates on their classic boot categories. Straight from its spring ’16 runway presentation, Hunter offered a fashion-minded take on waterproof shoes, including a stretch boot with a rubber heel. Däv and L.L. Bean, which nabbed our cover spot this week, reworked herringbone hunting Wellies.
Rising labels like Italian Rain Boots, which nailed it with a sleek and miminmal elongated upper, offer trusted rubber boots with a new made-in-Italy fabrication.

This season, rainboots were especially trending. Luxury brand Saint Laurent sent rubber Wellies down its spring ’16 runway in Paris, paired with silk dresses and tiaras for grunge-glam appeal.
Fashion brands like Nine West and Sperry have elevated designs with rubber strapping and metal buckles, which gave the rainboots a ready-for-the-streets look. Of course, when considering style icons like Kate Moss, who made the Wellington boot a staple at the Glastonbury Festival, these types of boots are especially appropriate.
To give your rain gear a modern spin, pair with a classic Barbour jacket or poncho-style coat. Because getting stuck in a storm doesn’t have to mean sacrificing style.
