Shoe of the Day Paris Men’s Fashion Week: Kenzo’s ‘Ready for Anything’ Hybrid Boot

Now that the bigwig luxury houses are showing at Paris Fashion Week this week, we’re taking a look at the standout men’s styles to hit the fall ’17 runways.

Day 5
After an encounter with an Arctic surfing subculture during a global trek, Kenzo’s Carol Lim and Humberto Leon were inspired to create a hybrid for fall 2017. Their proposal: A square-toe snow boot with sandal overlay that the designers describe as “ready for anything” shoes.

Day 4
Sacai’s Chitose Abe focused on the idea of cuttings things up for fall ’17. Her men’s show at Paris Fashion Week took traditional workwear boots and flipped them upside down — and quite literally so, completely reversing their constructions. “I took the whole idea of ‘cut up’ and applied to shoes as well,” said Abe following the show. “The front and back parts are reversed, so the laceup is happening at the back instead of the front.”

Day 3
For its spring ’17 men’s presentation at Paris Fashion Week today, Maison Margiela imagined what today’s Beat Generation would look like. The collection aimed to express “artistic intervention [that] disturbs minimalism.” The result? Dress shoes that were anything but classic. For instance: loafers were done in patchwork leather, constructed from the lasts of different oxford shoes. The style was inspired by an artisanal bib from Maison Margiela that was originally made in 2013.

Day 2
Kolor’s Junichi Abe experimented with texture this season. His fall ’17 men’s collection included sandal-clog hybrids. The uppers were made of patchwork fur and suede. The finishing touch? Velcro straps that recalled a Teva-style sandal. Talk about unique.

Day 1
Balenciaga’s Demna Gvasalia showed his interpretation of corporate fashion at Paris Fashion Week. The fall ’17 collection included tailored workwear items such as topcoats and suits, but were worn in a cool, more streetwear-influenced way. Suits paired with sneakers, for one, offered new interpretations of Balenciaga’s Triple-S style. They were colorful and purposely distressed — perfect for running to the office.
