Standout Velvet Shoes You Can Wear This Summer

We know what you’re thinking: velvet in the summer heat? Torture! But footwear labels tapped the season’s velvet trend with lightweight constructions and airy silhouettes, meaning you can wear them without completely burning up.

Though velvet shoes were a major trend at the fall ’16 shows in Paris, a number of standout styles are ready for purchase now. And at a variety of price points, too.

Sandals were refreshed in colored velvets. Both Saint Laurent and Jil Sander took on the ’70s-style platform and reworked it with jewel-toned velvet.

Meanwhile,e chic flats, such as The Row’s loafer or Tabitha Simmons’ pointy Mary Jane style, are perfect for those cool summer nights. Tom Ford’s lace-up velvet sneaker is a sportier option (the same style is also available for men here).

To wear the trend, you can either style velvet shoes for day or night.

For day wear, try pairing them with lighter colors (the shoe reads heavy so you’ll want to balance it out). We see flats paired with flared denim and an off-the-shoulder top.

Velvet is also a refined option for night and can be worn with your go-to black dress.
