This year, the country has seen progress in efforts to end the COVID-19 pandemic. According to recent data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 57% of the total U.S. population has received at least one dose of the coronavirus vaccine following rollouts of three vaccines for emergency use authorization in people ages 12 and up. And now, the FDA has has granted full approval for one of them, the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 Vaccine, for people ages 16 and up.
While face masks restrictions have loosened with the rollout of vaccines, the CDC still recommends that fully vaccinated people wear masks inside areas that have high transmission rates, in order to slow the spread of the Delta variant of the virus. Meanwhile, anyone who isn’t fully vaccinated and is over the age of two should wear a face mask in indoor public places.
Although face masks are a crucial tool to help stop the spread of the Delta variant, if yours is too big, you won’t be able to protect yourself and others effectively. Not only are oversized masks a nuisance (you’ll likely be fidgeting with them every few minutes to try to stay covered), but they also pose a safety risk, as infected droplets can easily pass through any gaps between your face and mask.
