Footwear Options For Father’s Day

Father’s Day is just around the corner, but there’s still time to plan a special day with dad. Instead of having him stand over a hot grill flipping burgers, treat him to an afternoon of hiking or brunch with his favorite offspring.

A hike through a local trail or national park is an ideal way to connect with both nature and dad — and a pair of light hikers can safely take you through any type of terrain. While performance brands offer their versions, lots of athletic labels are also putting their spin on the category.

You could also meet dad for a morning workout at the gym. Trainers are the way to go here as they’re appropriate for a range of activities, from the treadmill to a session with a personal  trainer.

If you want to keep things a bit looser, a pick-up game of basketball at the local park calls for performance basketball shoes from brands that include Nike and New Balance. While dad may think his old tennis shoes will do, the right footwear is bound to score points on and off the court.

Heading to the beach? Sure, dad may have plenty of the drugstore variety in his closet, but why not bring along a pair of more comfort-built looks from brands such as Vionic or Olukai?

If sports activities aren’t up his alley or yours, brunch is the way to go. And if you’re picking up the tab, you  may as well look the part in a pair of driving mocs or wingtip brogues. But remember, leave the socks at home  — it’s cooler that way, both temperature- and fashion-wise.
