Adidas Celebrates Jesse Owens With Black History Month Collection

In celebration of Black History Month, Adidas is honoring Jesse Owens with special editions of the D Lillard 2, D Rose 6 and Crazylight Boost 2.5 sneakers.

In 1936, Owens was the first American track-and-field athlete to win four gold medals at one Olympic games — and at the same time challenging the social inequality of that time.

James Harden, Damian Lillard and Derrick Rose will wear the sneakers during games on Martin Luther King Jr. Day and throughout the month of February.

When Owens won his medals, he was wearing track spikes made by Adidas founder Adi Dassler.

Owens’ family expressed its excitement about working with Adidas for Black History Month. “On the feet of athletes who compete in the spirit of Jesse’s historic accomplishments, these shoes encompass the significance of one of the greatest athletes the world has ever seen.”

The D Rose 6 and D Lillard 2 will be available this month and retail for $140 and $105, respectively.
