Proceeds From These Air Jordan Sneakers Will Benefit Sick Children

An annual tradition continues this year as an iconic Air Jordan model is once again part of Nike’s Doernbecher Freestyle Collection.

Damien Phillips, a former patient at Dornbecher Children’s Hospital in Oregon, is the designer behind this year’s “Doernbecher” Air Jordan 7. The shoes take inspiration from the brave young man’s affinity for playing the guitar, battle with the blood disorder hemophilia, and love for Michael Jordan and the Chicago Bulls.

The sneakers, which boast a black and red colorway accented by metallic gold, will be released as part of Nike’s Doernbecher Freestyle Collection on Saturday for $190 in adult sizes and $140 in kids. All proceeds from the collection, which also includes Kyrie Irving’s signature sneaker, will benefit the Doernbecher Children’s Hospital.

According to Nike, Phillips chose the black and red color scheme as a nod to the Bulls, his favorite basketball team. In fact, Nike says he’s so proud of his design, he hopes Jordan himself will lace up the special sneakers someday.
