Arc’teryx’s Debut Boot Line Hits Stores Next Week

Could these be Kanye West’s new go-to boots?

Arc’teryx, an esteemed leader in outdoor technical apparel, is launching its first footwear collection in stores on March 1. Since West is a fan of the brand — he donned Arc’teryx ski gear in Park City, Utah, while hitting the slopes with wife Kim Kardashian — it’s possible the hikers could become a celebrity favorite.

Arc’teryx executives said the shoe collection offers everything consumers know and love about the brand.

“We had the strong belief that we could offer a better solution for all Arc’teryx customers and fans in the footwear category,” said Federico Sbrissa, senior product line manager for Arc’teryx. “We took some of the technologies [from the apparel], such as lamination, fabric development and climate management, [and incorporated them] into our shoes, which are more durable, lighter and have a superior climate comfort.”

Two product lines are on offer for spring ’15: the Acrux and the Bora, for both men and women.

The Acrux is a technical alpine-approach shoe for hiking in terrain toward a climbing ascent. “Due to the comfort, durability and very versatile outsole design, it can also be used as a top-class low-cut hiker,” said Sbrissa.

The Bora is suited for longer hikes in the wilderness — when clocking 30 miles is the norm — or for lighter treks where additional ankle support is needed.

What stands out in certain models is a unique removable liner. Since the shoes do not have a tongue, the liner has a larger breathable surface area and increased waterproof coverage. It’s made from a fully stretchable material built with Gore-Tex Performance Comfort that wraps around the foot, making the fit unique to each individual. And the liners can also serve as camp slippers when walking inside tents or huts.

Arc’teryx’s spring line is stocked by major retailers such as REI, Backcountry.com, Moosejaw, Paragon Sports in New York and The Tannery in Boston.
