Asics Sponsors Tennis Player David Goffin

After falling to Roger Federer in the fourth round of the Australian Open, Belgian tennis pro David Goffin got some good news this week: The 25-year-old has signed a sponsorship deal with Asics to represent the athletic brand both on and off the court.

Goffin will wear Asics’ latest performance footwear, apparel and accessories in competition and training. He also will be outfitted with the company’s other training and lifestyle collections, including Asics Tiger and Onitsuka Tiger.

Goffin said in a statement, “With the backing of Asics and their heritage in creating technologically advanced tennis footwear and apparel, I’m really excited about the 2016 season.”

The young athlete, who went pro in 2009, finished the 2015 ATP tour ranked No. 16 in the world, making him the highest-ranked Belgian tennis player in history.

Meanwhile, Asics also signed German athlete Julia Goerges, currently ranked No. 50 on the women’s tennis circuit.

Alistair Cameron, executive officer of Kobe, Japan-based Asics Corp., pointed out that tennis is a key growth category for the brand, which has seen 41 percent growth in tennis apparel and 16 percent growth in on-court footwear. “Adding these three top players to our existing roster of global tennis ambassadors will help us build on the successes of 2015 and further cement our strong position in the tennis market in 2016 and beyond,” Cameron said in a statement.

Asics’ other tennis ambassadors include Gael Monfils (who starred in its ad campaign last year), Philipp Kohlschreiber, Johanna Konta and Samantha Stosur.
