The first UFC card at Madison Square Garden in New York City is shaping up to be one of the fight promotion’s best yet.
The organization’s president, Dana White, announced today on ESPN’s “Sportscenter” that its Reebok-sponsored star Conor McGregor will take on lightweight champion Eddie Alvarez at UFC 205, which is set for Nov. 12. Fellow Reebok athlete Chris Weidman will also fight on the same card, his first bout since losing the middleweight title to Luke Rockhold in December at UFC 194. Weidman will take on fourth-ranked middleweight contender Yoel Romero, which was confirmed by White today on WFAN’s Boomer & Carton show.
The McGregor announcement is a change of tune from White’s last statement about the Irishman’s next opponent, saying it wasn’t going to be Alvarez via Twitter on Sept. 20.

In McGregor’s last bout, the charismatic Irish fighter defeated Nate Diaz at UFC 202 in August, taking the five-round unanimous decision. Prior to his UFC 202 scrap with Diaz, McGregor trained in the Reebok ZPump Fusion 2.0 and the Rebook Boxing Boot — Buck.
Weidman, who signed with Reebok in October 2015, will look to bounce back from his first loss as a pro against Romero, who also only has one defeat on his record. Romero won a split decision over Ronaldo Souza in his last fight, which like Weidman’s loss also took place at UFC 194.
