Denzel Valentine Hits Championship-Winning Buzzer-Beater In Nike Kyrie 2

Before Monday night’s NBA Summer League championship game against the Chicago Bulls in Las Vegas, guard Tyus Jones of the Minnesota Timberwolves was named the league’s MVP. But rookie Denzel Valentine spoiled Jones’ and the Timberwolves night with a game-winning buzzer-beater, bringing the title to Chicago.

After hitting a 3-pointer with .2 seconds left in regulation to tie the game at 74, Valentine buried a turnaround jumper with the game tied at 82 in overtime and time expiring to give the Bulls the 84-82 win. Valentine finished the game with seven points on 3-of-10 shooting with eight rebounds and three assists.

Both Valentine and Jones wore the signature shoes of Cleveland Cavaliers star guard Kyrie Irving throughout the 11-day event. During Monday’s championship win, Valentine wore the “Wolf Grey” iteration of the Nike Kyrie 2. In the loss, Jones wore the Nike Kyrie 1 “Australia.”

The Summer League shoe of choice for the No. 14 overall pick in the 2016 NBA Draft isn’t the only profound sneaker moment of Valentine’s summer. The guard from Michigan State University wore the Air Jordan 12 “French Blue” to throw out the first pitch when the Chicago White Sox faced the Minnesota Twins on June 29.
