Brandblack’s Founder Supports DeSean Jackson’s Police Brutality Protest

Washington Redskins receiver DeSean Jackson on Sept. 25 joined the growing number of protesting NFL players by raising his fist during the national anthem as a way to call attention to the controversial police killings of black men throughout the country. Today, the outspoken Brandblack-sponsored athlete is furthering his anti-brutality message with custom cleats.

The brand’s founder, David Raysse, said in an email statement to Footwear News that he supports his sponsored athlete’s message.

“We believe that America has a real problem when unarmed men are being killed by the very people people who’s job it is to protect them. Obviously the overwhelming majority of police live to serve, and are doing one of the most dangerous thankless jobs in the world, but there are a small minority of their ranks that are killing men and boys,” he wrote. “DeSean Jackson has taken an incredibly brave stance, and I applaud his peaceful and positive protest. I cannot speak for other sponsors, what I can say is that I stand behind DeSean 100 percent. We are trying to change America for the better, Brandblack chooses to be on the right side of that change.”

The label released Jackson’s signature training shoe, the DJX, on Sept. 22.
