Chicago Bulls guard Jimmy Butler dropped 40 points in the first half of Sunday’s game against the Toronto Raptors, breaking iconic Bulls guard Michael Jordan’s franchise record of points scored in a half. It’s only fitting that Butler did so in a pair of the legendary baller’s signature shoes.
Butler wore a player’s-edition colorway of the Air Jordan XX9 Low on the road against the team’s Eastern Conference foe. The shoe featured a predominantly gray and black upper with a red midsole and white outsole. Red was also present on the shoe’s heel and branding on the tongue.
The 6-foot-7 guard’s 40 points came in the second half against the Raptors after scoring only two points in the first half. Butler’s 42 points came on 15-of-23 shooting, including a pair of three-pointers on three attempts. The previous record of 39 points scored in a half held by Jordan lasted 26 years before it was topped. Jordan scored 39 points in the second half against the Milwaukee Bucks on Feb. 16, 1989, ending the game with 50 points on 16-of-26 shooting.
