Kevin Durant is still lacing up the Nike KD8 for the Oklahoma City Thunder this season, but the brand unveiled today what he will be on his feet in the future.
Visuals and technical details of the Nike KD9 – which is scheduled to hit stores June 20 – made its way online today, designed by frequent Durant signature shoe designer, Leo Chang. The low-cut shoe uses two of the brand’s most celebrated technologies: Flyknit and Zoom Air.

Nike uses its lightweight and strong Flyknit on the upper in a honeycomb pattern, created to handle multidimensional movement and lateral quickness. The technology also helps secure the forefoot while allowing the foot to move naturally.

The shoe also employs a visible heel-to-toe Zoom Air unit that is filled with fibers that compress with every step and spring back. The Zoom Air unit is 16 mm in the heel and 10 mm in the forefoot, which provides exceptional impact protection. To feel the improved responsiveness coming from the Zoom Air unit, the shoe is created with a minimized midsole.

The KD9 also features anatomical flex grooves in the forefoot for better natural transitions, and notches in the heel for stability during lateral movements.
