Oregon Cop Caught On Camera In Act of Shoe Kindness

A police officer from North Bend, Ore., is making locals proud after his act of kindness was caught on camera late last week.

According to a Facebook post from the North Bend Police Department, Officer Brent Gaither noticed a barefoot homeless man in the station’s lobby on Aug. 25. The man was there to report that he had been robbed the previous night of his belongings, shoes included.

While other officers worked on preparing a report, Gaither went to a local hospice and bought a new pair of boots for the man.

“What do I love about this story most?,” North Bend Police Chief Robert Kappelman wrote on Facebook. “Officer Gaither didn’t tell me he was going to do that, he didn’t tell me after he did it.”

Later, Gaither told “Inside Edition” that the man was in the middle of 50-mile trek up the coast when his shoes and other items were stolen.

“All the officers here do these random actions of kindness; it motivates us. In that little moment, it made me feel great to help the man. That’s what keeps us going,” Gaither said.

A video of the generous act is included below, and you can read Chief Kappelman’s full Facebook post here.
