With the U.S. Open approaching, Packer Shoes is going all in on tennis.
The New Jersey-based retailer has teamed up with Asics for a five-shoe collection, featuring performance and lifestyle looks. Packer’s take on the court-ready Gel Resolution will be worn during the Open by French tennis star Gael Monfils.
“[Monfils] has a ton of flavor with the way he plays, the way he interacts with the crowd. That’s what we wanted to convey in these shoes,” said Packer Shoes owner Mike Packer. “We then crafted everything on the lifestyle side from what we did with the performance side.”
An admitted sneakerhead, Monfils is partial to another shoe in the collection. “I could see myself wearing [the] Gel Lyte
III around New York during my time off,” the tennis star told Footwear News.
The sneakers use a blue and burgundy color palette, led by the Gel Resolution, featuring the hues on its upper and completed with a classic gum outsole.

Along with the Gel Resolution ($150), the collection boasts reimagined Asics’ Gel Lyte III ($160) and Gel Sight ($150), and the Onitsuka Tiger OT GSM ($100) and Lawnship ($110) styles.
All shoes in the collection feature Packer and Asics co-branded insoles. Aside from footwear, Packer Shoes also teamed up with Mitchell & Ness for an apparel and accessory line. The apparel ranges from $30 to $150.
To present the collection, Packer Shoes will open a pop-up shop in the Vanderbilt Hall at Grand Central Terminal in New York City from Aug. 30 to Sept. 1.
