With Peyton Manning sidelined with a torn plantar fascia in his left foot, the Denver Broncos put the offense in Brock Osweiler’s hands. But with Manning active for Sunday’s game against the San Diego Chargers and Osweiler throwing a pair of early interceptions, Manning entered the game in the third quarter and led the Broncos to victory, 27-20.
Sunday’s win secured the AFC’s top spot for the Broncos, giving them home-field advantage throughout the AFC playoffs. While the NFL Playoffs start with the Wild Card round on Jan. 9, Manning and Denver don’t play until its Divisional Round matchup on Jan. 17.
Manning hit the Sports Authority Field at Mile High in an all-white with navy colorway of the Nike Code Pro 3/4 cleats. Although Manning replaced Osweiler, his stats weren’t typical of his performance throughout his 18-year career, completing five passes on nine attempts and throwing for 69 yards. Osweiler, before getting pulled, completed 14 of 22 passes, throwing for 232 yards and a touchdown. The fourth-year quarterback had a lost fumble in addition to the pair of interceptions.
The Broncos offense was led by its rushing attack, with running back Ronnie Hillman accruing 117 yards on 15 carries and a touchdown. Running back C.J. Anderson also found the end zone Sunday and rushed for 95 yards on 15 carries.
