Check Out How Much Virgin America’s ‘First Class’ Shoe Raised for Charity

Virgin America’s one-of-a-kind sneaker, inspired by its first-class amenities, was auctioned on eBay, bringing in nearly $100,000 for charity.

Proceeds from the sale of the high-tech footwear, which hit the website on Oct. 14, benefited Soles4Souls, a nonprofit that has distributed 26 million pairs of shoes since 2006 to those in need. After a little more than a week of bidding, the auction came to a close on Oct. 23, raising a grand total of $97,877.77 for the organization.

“We are incredibly honored to have been chosen as the beneficiary. This unique project not only gives Soles4Souls the opportunity to make an enormous impact and help those in need, but it has also received huge exposure, raising awareness for the millions who live every day without access to a good pair of shoes,” said Soles4Souls President and CEO Buddy Teaster.

The one-of-a-kind sneakers were created by Virgin America in collaboration with Eleven Inc. and Milan’s SearchnDesign and were handcrafted in Milan. In addition to the luxury construction, Virgin America’s first-class sneakers feature built-in WiFi, a USB phone charger, and the airline’s signature mood lighting. The shoes also boast a video display — just like flying in first class.
