Vivobarefoot has created its most barefoot shoe yet. Originally conceptualized as “the glove runner,” the new unisex shoe is called Sensus.
Unveiled today, the Vivobarefoot Sensus is made of soft, wild leather. Like most barefoot shoes, its thin fabric causes its upper to fall in on itself when not worn. To make it lighter and unobtrusive, the style is crafted with only 14 components.
The shoe’s upper was inspired by the traditional moccasin silhouette. The Sensus also features a super-thin sole with treading inspired by the footprints left in the Great Rift Valley in Engaro Sero, Tanzania.
The Sensus’ sole is completed by an Ergonomic fit, in line with the style’s “like a glove for feet” tagline. The shoe will be available in three colorways, including olive and white, priced at 140 euros, which is about $153.
The Sensus is the latest in barefoot shoes for the company which has built itself off of the idea since 2012. Along the way, the company has also prioritized sustainability, releasing styles made of algae and more.

“The sustainability mindset and the barefoot mindset need to become a given for us,” Vivobarefoot cofounder Asher Clark told FN in 2019. “But the narrative around barefoot is a complicated one. The cold reality is, conversations around sustainability and performance are easier to get people into than barefoot and what it does for you. So it starts with product. We’re trying to make shoes that are as healthy for your feet and the planet as possible.”
