Women’s National Soccer Team Wins World Cup in Nike, Under Armour & Adidas

For the first time since 1999, the U.S. Women’s National Team won the Women’s World Cup, dominating Japan in the final match 5-2. The soccer team was led by hat trick-scoring midfielder Carli Lloyd.

Lloyd, wearing the Nike Mercurial Superfly FG, netted three goals in just 16 minutes against the defending Women’s World Cup champions on Sunday in Canada. The Delran, N.J., native was awarded the Adidas Golden Ball, given to the tournament’s most outstanding player. The midfielder scored six goals during the tournament.

The other two U.S. goals in the final were the work of Tobin Heath, who wore the Nike Mercurial Vapor X FG, and Under Armour-sponsored Lauren Holiday, who wore the brand’s limited edition U.S.A.-themed ClutchFit Force FG. Heath and Holiday’s goals during the final were the only ones they scored during the tournament.

Although Nike was the official sponsor of the team, some players were personally sponsored by brands such as Under Armour (Holiday and Kelley O’Hara) and Adidas (Becky Sauerbrunn and Morgan Brian).
