Adidas and National Geographic Reunite for Aurora Borealis-Themed Collaboration

Adidas and National Geographic are reuniting for a second nature-inspired collection. On Sept. 27, the athletic brand will team up again with the magazine on a capsule line inspired by the lights of the Aurora Borealis.

“Nature is special beyond words. It has the power to create indescribable emotions. And not many spectacles encapsulate this better than the Northern Lights,” said Nadia Svensson, Adidas’ senior product director of BU Outdoor, in a statement. “Together with National Geographic, we’ve captured the beauty of this phenomenon in fresh ways across a 25-piece collection which we hope inspires adventure-seekers to get outdoors and experience the transformative benefits of nature.”

The pair’s resulting collection features a range of pieces interpreted from the Northern Lights’ color schemes, as photographed for National Geographic. This line’s core shoe is the label’s Terrex Swift R3 Gore-Tex hiking boots — as seen in their April 2023 debut drop — which features a running sneaker-inspired lace-up shape in hues of green, blue, black and gray, grounded by hiking boot-like textured rubber outsoles.

Similar coloring can also be seen in the line’s additional outdoor clothing and layering pieces, including a unisex 3-in-1 waterproof shell jacket — one colorway green and beige, the other blue — paneled with photographs of the lights. Others include a reinforced Softshell jacket, as well as a reflective lightweight fleece style for cooler weather.

Though the collection is not currently out, fans of both Adidas and National Geographic won’t have to wait for it for long. The line will be released on Adidas’ website, app and for adiClub members in select retail locations on Sept. 27, according to a brand statement.
