Carhartt WIP and New Balance’s 990v6 Is Ready for Work

New Balance and Carhartt WIP are set to collaborate for the second time in as many years, and their newest sneaker leans in hard to the workwear vibes.

Although it’s short on duck canvas, the 990v6 made by NB and Carhartt WIP immediately cries out “chore coat” or “double-knee.” The sneaker maintains its mesh, suede, and leather construction while bringing a mix of brown shades that’d look right in place on a construction site or a fabrication warehouse. Additional hits of off-white, charcoal grey, and a sort-of olive green maintain the salt-of-the-earth aesthetic — only made for the workwear adopters that regularly turn to Carhartt’s style-oriented WIP division.

Carhartt WIP branding takes over the tongue tag, while dual-branding defines the insole and the heel’s “NB” logo borrows its color from that of Carhartt. Fittingly, the sneaker was Made in the U.S., which will bring a higher quality than the baseline New Balance release.

Watch on FN

In 2022, New Balance and Carhartt WIP christened their partnership with a 990v1 defined by dark navy and complementary shades. It was without a doubt a tasteful effort, but with the 990v6 making a more overt appeal for the workwear aesthetic and featuring more dynamic lines as a model, we fully expect more eyes to land on this year’s release.

The Carhartt WIP x New Balance 990v6 will release Oct. 20 through both parties’ websites, as well as select third-party retailers. Pricing is set at $220.
