EBay Celebrates ‘Banned Day’ With Jordan 1 ‘Satin Bred’ Release

Just in time for “Banned Day,” eBay is set to release its day one inventory of the highly anticipated launch of the satin treatment of the iconic Jordan 1 “Bred” sneaker today.

The sneaker plays off the original colorways of the Air Jordan 1 line from 1985, which was retroed in 2013 and rereleased in 2016. In 2019, the style was released again exclusively for women in the “Satin Black Toe” colorway.

To celebrate the launch, eBay shared which satin colorways are topping enthusiasts’ wish lists. The top five most-searched Jordan 1 Satin colorways on eBay so far this year were the Jordan 1 Satin “Black Toe,” Jordan 1 Satin “Black Gym Red,” Jordan 1 Satin “Shattered Backboard,” Jordan 1 Satin “Bred,” and Jordan 1 Satin “Snake Chicago.”

As for which Jordan 1 “Bred” models were the most searched on the platform this year, eBay said that the Jordan 1 “Patent Bred” (2021), Jordan 1 “Bred” (2013), Jordan 1 “Bred Banned” (2016), Jordan 1 “Bred” (2001), and the Jordan 1 “Bred” (1985) topped the list.

This launch comes as the Jordan 1 “Bred” and “Satin” models have achieved record sales this year on eBay. In March, eBay sold a rare Season 8 Original 1985 Nike Air Jordan 1 High OG Black & Red Bred Vintage for $3,700. This was followed up the next month by the sale of an Original 1985 Air Jordan 1 Nike Banned High Black & Red Bred from the original owner for $3,250.

More of these sales are possible due to the company’s investment in its authentication program. Since the launch of Authenticity Guarantee in 2020, eBay expanded this program earlier this summer with the expansion into kids’ sneakers as well as streetwear.

Aside from today’s Jordan 1 “Satin Bred” release, eBay will hold similar drops on Nov. 4 for the Jordan 1 “Royal Reimagined” and on Dec. 9 for the Jordan 11 DMP.

“Banned Day,” which falls on Oct. 18, is the approximate day in hoops and sneaker history on which rookie Chicago shooting guard Michael Jordan rocked an unconventional (at the time) pair of kicks on-court in a preseason game and was subsequently fined for it.
