Oregon Football Will Wear Color-Changing Nike Dunk Cleats for Its Game Against Colorado

The University of Colorado and head coach Deion Sanders may be grabbing the most attention in college football right now, but its the University of Oregon that’s heavily favored in this weekend’s matchup — and that’s getting one of the coolest football cleats you’ll ever see.

The Oregon Ducks will take the field in color-changing Nike Vapor Edge pro 360 KF Dunk cleats. The silhouette is yet another transformation for the Dunk, which began as a basketball shoe in the ’80s and from the ’00s on has been adopted skateboarders and sneakerheads. But it isn’t just the sneaker-obsessed whose eyes will be drawn to the feet of the Oregon footbalal, as the color-changing overlays will make it hard for anyone to look away.

Black underlays blend into the background for the heat-activated, color-changing overlays. Oregon-affiliated Instagram accounts debuted the cleats ahead of Saturday’s game with images featuring a local chameleon as a model.

Oregon’s football players are something of chameleons themselves, as they’re treated by Nike to new uniforms for every single game. The university and Nike have a long-standing relationship because of its two founders, as Bill Bowerman coached Phil Knight on the Ducks track team. In 2021, Knight made his second donation of $500 million to the school’s Phil and Penny Knight Campus for Accelerating Scientific Impact. Nike also put $13.5 toward the renovation of Oregon’s track and field stadium in 2016, and it designed the school’s “O” logo that was first used in 1998 and was adopted four years later across the university.

The odds may be stacked against Colorado defeating Oregon this week, but when it comes to the footwear battle, there’s even less of a chance of an upset.
