Puma Reveals Two New Tech-Loaded Running Shoes as It Aims for Bigger Share of the Market

With the brand gaining steam in the ultracompetitive running market, Puma has revealed the two newest shoes in its popular Deviate Nitro franchise.

The new shoes are the Deviate Nitro 3, which is an everyday training look, and the Deviate Nitro Elite 3, a style made to perform on race day.

“We’re living in a world where athletes and runners have high expectations. They want to set PBs [personal bests] and break records, time and time again. To do that, you need a shoe that gives you the competitive edge. That’s where Deviate comes in,” Puma vice president of innovation Romain Girard said in a statement.

Puma equipped the Deviate Nitro 3 with more of its acclaimed Nitrofoam technology underfoot than its predecessor, which the brand stated was done to offer cushioning and responsiveness. Also, the shoe features a carbon-fiber PWR Plate, which the brand said was added to deliver “a smoother and more consistent source of speed.” Wrapping up the shoe are its Pumagrip outsoles made with multi-surface traction in mind and lightweight engineered mesh uppers with strategically placed PWR Tape for support in high stress areas.

Retail price for the Puma Deviate Nitro 3 is $160.

As for the Deviate Nitro Elite 3, Puma stated the shoe is its lightest race day look to date, weighing in at just 194 g. It features Nitrofoam Elite cushioning underfoot, which the brand described as “the elite version of its advanced nitrogen-infused foam technology” and offers improved energy return. What is also improved is the stiffer carbon-fiber PWR Plate underfoot, which Puma stated increases propulsion and allows wearers “to unlock maximum speed.” The shoe also features mono-mesh uppers for breathability that are reinforced with PWR Tape in prominent stress areas, and underfoot are Pumagrip outsoles with multi-surface traction.

The Puma Deviate Nitro Elite 3 will retail for $230.

The Puma Deviate Nitro Elite 3 in the “Prototype” colorway will release in limited numbers on June 17 via Puma.com, the Puma app and at selected retailers. The Deviate Nitro 3 and Deviate Nitro Elite 3 in the “Fireglow” colorway arrives globally on July 1 via on Puma.com, the Puma app, the Puma NYC flagship store and at selected retailers.
