Saucony and Claima Launch New Orleans-Inspired Sneaker

Following the release of the Claima x Saucony 3D Grid Hurricane “Claim A Seat” last fall, the pair have a fresh take on the silhouette. The design aims to “inspire and fund the next wave of BIPOC entrepreneurs.”

The Massachusetts-based athletic brand and the independent creative agency just launched a new 3D Grid Hurricane in a purple and yellow colorway that pays homage to New Orleans, the hometown of Claima founder, Bimma Williams. The color combination has come to be synonymous with Claima.

“Everything I learned about creativity, I learned from New Orleans. I can remember heading to the city to see my first Mardi Gras parade as a kid and being amazed by the design of the floats and costumes,” Williams shared in a statement about the inspiration behind the limited-edition shoe.

The upper is made of soft premium suede and breathable mesh fabric. The style is available in golden yellow, beige cream, and brown, with dark purple embroidering throughout. The heels are stamped with Claima on the left shoe and NOLA on the right. A purple antimicrobial lining, lightweight EVA midsoles, and Claima logo aglets complete the design.

When discussing his first 3D Grid Hurricane collaboration, Williams explained, “I was drawn to the name Hurricane. Growing up in Louisiana, we’ve dealt with many storms, from Andrew to Katrina and more. After the Hurricane passes, we always pick up the pieces. So it all just spoke to me on a personal level.”

Retailing at $150, the retro running silhouette is already nearly sold out on saucony.com.
