Travis Scott’s Signature Jordan Sneaker Isn’t Actually Called ‘Cut the Check’

Travis Scott‘s signature sneaker from Jordan Brand is on the way before the end of the year, but don’t call it the “Cut the Check.” The internal code name has been picked up and circulated throughout the sneaker blogosphere, but Jordan Brand vice president Reggie Saunders confirmed it’s not the real name.

“I’m not gonna say the name. People keep throwing out a name, but that’s not the name,” Saunders said in an interview with Complex. “We haven’t even landed on one yet. It’s a feeling. It’s gonna be interesting what we come up with, because we’ve been throwing out all kinds of names.”

“Cut the Check” has been used by Jordan Brand to refer to the sneaker in internal documents and calendars, the leak of which through sneaker blogs has led to it being referred to as such. This is also how SKUs, color combos, and the release window of holiday 2023 have surfaced. But, officially speaking, Jordan Brand hasn’t yet signed off on any of this information going public. A code name could’t help keep the information buried, and thus the code name is all anyone had to call it.

Even without a name, Scott has worn the sneaker in several colorways throughout the year, including one he posted to Instagram himself last week. Just a day later, he posted yet another unreleased sneaker to Instagram. It looks a lot like what’s been referred to as the Cut the Check with some changes, but one established leaker says it’s in fact a different model called the “Sharkidon” to be released under the Nike banner instead of Jordan.

Scott has been one of Jordan and Nike’s biggest partners since they began working with him in 2017, and his signature sneaker will be a milestone for all parties involved. Saunders said he began speaking with Scott about him getting his own shoe two years into the partnership, but the artist said he wasn’t yet ready.

Now that it’s happening, Jordan Brand still isn’t ready to say too much yet. But expect the roll-out to ramp up sooner than later.
