Although Tyr Sport’s roots are in swim, the California-based brand has also found its footing in fitness. With its gym-focused audience continuing to grow, Tyr has revealed its latest training shoe, the CXT-2.
The CXT-2, the brand explained, combines features of its predecessor, the CXT-1, “with innovative upgrades.” What’s more, Tyr said it designed the shoe with a focus on fit, functionality and comfort, and the model is “fine-tuned to maximize athletes’ training experience and take on the most rigorous competitions.”
“Incorporating customer and athlete feedback was extremely important to us in producing the next iteration of the CXT Trainer,” Tyr Sport chief executive officer Matt DiLorenzo said in a statement. “Athletes who were fans of the first version of the shoe will be pleased with the refinements, and those who weren’t early adopters will want to give it another test. We’re confident that it is the most comfortable and versatile cross-training shoe on the market.”
In terms of technology, Tyr added a stronger TPU Stability Wrap to the CXT-2 than its predecessor, which features durable sides and heel for enhanced stability. It also features the brand’s responsive SurgeNrg foam midsoles, high-density heel foam for comfort and lockdown around the heel and ankle, TyrTac outsoles for improved grip and mobility, and a secure lacing system with enhanced lace loops for a secure fit.

As for how the shoe fits, Tyr stated it is 4 mm wider than the CXT-1, which was done to offer an enhanced anatomical fit — and tested by the brand’s roster of CrossFit athletes during competition — and there is a 7 mm heel-to-toe drop. Tyr also added an extended toe guard for durability and traction, breathable uppers with engineered mesh construction, a smooth and durable heel tab for glide during handstand push-ups and a flexible forefoot for explosive movements and agility.
The Tyr CXT-2 is available via Tyr.com, in Tyr stores and at select retailers globally. The shoe retails for $150.
