Union Officially Announces Its Long-Anticipated Nike Field General Sneakers Will Release in Late-June

Union’s involvement in the revival of Nike’s Field General turf sneaker has been reported since late last summer, and now the legendary Los Angeles boutique is officially revealing its “Union-U” collection.

The Union x Nike Field General “Union-U” series is made up of three different colorways with a retooled construction. The unadulterated Field General features a relatively simple upper with a strong resemblance to the Nike Killshot, but Union has added a number of new panels with a mix of mesh, leather and suede, as well as contrast-stitching and nylon webbing. While the sole unit’s transformation isn’t as extreme, it does get reinforcements at the toe and heel, as well as an inset Union logo on the lateral heel.

The “UN/LA” hangtag that appears throughout Union’s Nike and Jordan Brand collaborations is stitched onto the lateral eyestay, while the brand’s name appears on the right tongue tag.

Union revealed two of the three colorways in a promotional video posted to Instagram Thursday, and a third was shown in Instagram stories reposted by Union from people have been given the sneaker in advance of its release. Based on how the rollout has been handled, it appears likely that the “Black Ivory” and Burgundy, pink and brown “Shimmer” editions will released to the public, while the white, orange and black version shared by others will be a friends-and-family exclusive.

In a card included in the packaging given out to select people, Union says the sneakers were inspired by the boutique owner Chris Gibbs’ high school football days wearing the Field General. Updates in the materials and color schemes have been made to honor the past while “re-positioning the turf shoe for its future off the field.

The Union x Nike Field General “Union-U” collection will release June 27, likely through the boutique’s Los Angeles location and website before a Snkrs launch at a later date. Official word hasn’t gone beyond a launch date and the promotional spot, but this post will be updated as new information becomes available.
