The mismatched shoe trend has been having a moment in 2023. What was once thought of as a fashion faux-pas, wearing shoe styles that seemingly don’t go together has offered footwear fanatics a playful alternative, extending the lifespan and wear time of many silhouettes. Although it is experiencing a surge in popularity now, the concept is not new. From 2008 Celine runways to top stars like Helena Bonham-Carter, Beyonce and Amal Clooney, mismatched shoes have always been around.

Perhaps the strongest advocate of the trend, Sarah Jessica Parker has worn mismatched shoes to a myriad of occasions over the years, acting as an unofficial style trademark of sorts. The celebrated thespian has also worn the trend on the big screen, as seen on her beloved character Carrie Bradshaw in the “Escape From New York” episode of “Sex and the City” which aired in the 2000s. A scene from the episode saw the sex columnist sporting a pair of Christian Louboutin sandals, one pink and one blue.
