As we transition into fall and winter, rain boots will become a closet staple for many. The modern rain boot as we know it today was first seen in the early 19th century first worn by Arthur Wellesley or the Duke of Wellington. This is where the affectionate nickname of “Wellies” or “Welly” comes from. The boot was made for military men to keep water out during combat. Many commercial rain boots are made of PVC and rubber, hydrophobic materials that repel water.

Both Welly styles are available for purchase now on Melissa’s website.
