The adidas NMD franchise has taken a step back from the limelight in recent years, as adidas forges onward with new technologies, silhouettes, and ideas. However, the influence and change that the NMD_R1 brought for the German sportswear brand cannot be denied, and this year, NMD is celebrating five years on retail shelves. To celebrate this special occasion, the team at adidas Originals has whipped up a fresh take on the NMD_R1’s classic black, red, and blue color scheme. For this release, the R1’s upper has been blacked out, from heel to toe. The color comes in the form of the shoe’s EVA midsole inserts, which take on a color gradient beginning with sky blue towards the heel and eventually changing into bright red for the forefoot.

adidas’ interesting new spin on their original colorway of the NMD_R1 is scheduled to hit shelves on July 1st, 2020. The new gradient color scheme for these NMDs will retail for $140, launching from both adidas and select retailers.
