This year’s Summer Olympic Games are just around the corner, and footwear brands are bringing out all kinds of special-edition lifestyle and performance footwear for the occasion. Ahead of the Games’ kick off in July, Asics is expected to release a new color scheme of their GEL-Kayano 14, featuring metallic gold, silver, and bronze for the “Medals” look.
Every four years, we get a huge wave of releases from footwear brands centered on the Summer Olympics. The Games are usually a time for brands to showcase new performance shoes, teaming up with athletes to show their performance values at the highest level of competition. Additionally, brands usually have a range of lifestyle options to release, which are given to sponsored athletes to wear around the their village residence, as well as for the public to show some national support of honor the games themselves. This year, Asics is bringing out a special pair of the GEL-Kayano 14 for the latter case, dripped in metallic colors for the “Olympic Medals” color scheme.
The GEL-Kayano 14 has been the focal point of Asics retro lifestyle releases for several years now. Originally released in 2014, the model has returned as a casual wear option, bringing mid-2000s style into the modern day with a wide range of both in-line and collaborative releases. For their Olympic-themed pair, the shoe sports a plain white mesh foundation, layering metallic overlays from heel to toe to represent the three possible medals given to winners in each sport. Gold is placed at the toes of the shoe, followed by silver in the midfoot and bronze at the heels. The colorway also features cream tinted midsoles, laces, and lining to complete the new look.

Asics’ latest new style for the GEL-Kayano 14 has not been announced for release, and is expected to arrive sometime in Summer 2024, alongside the Olympics in July. The bronze, gold, and silver “Medals” look will be available from the brand’s website and select retailers, likely with a price tag of $160.
