The Asics Gel-Kayano 5 first appeared on the running scene back in 1999, quickly establishing itself as one of the brand’s best offerings. This year, the Gel-Kayano returned twenty years after its debut, featuring all the details and technology that fans loved from the original, and modernizing them to better fit today’s sneaker scene. Features that fans of the original ’99 version will recognize include the bulky look, defined by a heavily layered upper, Asics Tiger branding, and the visible Gel technology in the heel. However, the new alterations make some much-needed changes to the shoe. The weight of the Gel-Kayano 5 has been stripped down, shedding excess from the past and streamlining the design for today’s market. This week, the retro runner is made over in dark new color scheme, which layers metallic silver accents over a black leather base, with just a hint of red to complete the look.

ASICS’ latest Gel-Kayano 5 colorway is scheduled to hit shelves in the U.S. sometime soon, though you can the new colorway in select sizes from FootDistrict. The regal “Metallic Silver” color scheme will retail for the OG silhouette’s standard $130 price tag, and will release from both ASICS and select retailers.
