New Balance Taps Japan’s BEAMS for an Asymmetrical Colorway of the 990v5

New Balance’s 990v5 has been on a tear this year, thanks to a burst in popularity from the fashion community. This week, the sleek running sneaker surfaced quietly in a new asymmetrical colorway, courtesy of Japan’s BEAMS.

Another day, another incredible project from BEAMS. Based in Japan, the clothing brand has been a central piece of the country’s culture for several years now, thanks to their excellently curated six-story department store in Shinjuku. BEAMS has been dominant in their collaborations over the past several years, and the latest project with New Balance is no different. Delivering their take on the massively popular 990v5, the team at BEAMS produced a stunning new asymmetrical colorway in the tones of New Balance’s famous grey color scheme. The shoe’s main body retains the same pale grey tone throughout the shoe’s various overlays. The asymmetrical coloring can best ben seen on the toe box and tongue, where both shoes feature opposing light or dark shades of grey mesh base layers.
