New Balance has released a number of variations on their 1906 runner in the last year. The shoe’s original format is subtitled R, with variants labeled D, U, and now, A. The latest version features untrimmed panels and loose webbing, and is set to release in a new “Metallic” palette this year.
The 1906 model from New Balance is a celebratory piece of the brand’s history. Originally released in 2009, the shoe’s seemingly random number celebrates the year of the brand’s founding, back when they produced simple inserts for more comfortable arches in shoes. Now, the silhouette has become a staple of their lifestyle catalog, and has several different variants on its original format, noted through the letter subtitles in each model’s name. This Summer, NB is set to launch their latest variant, the 1906A.
The first pairs of the A submodel first appeared earlier this year, dressing the shoe in tonal black & grey color schemes. While this version is overall quite similar to the standard 1906, the A features untrimmed panels across the upper, adding extra flaps of leather and synthetic textiles, as well as extended webbing from the signature ‘N’ logos. This week, we have an early look at a new “Metallic” color scheme for the model, which features metallic silver panels, gold trim, and dark grey over a cream white mesh base layer.

New Balance’s next colors of their 1906A model have not been scheduled to release yet, but are expected to arrive sometime soon, before the end of 2024. Seen here in a mix of metallic silver and gold tones with dark grey, pairs will be available from the brand’s website and select retailers for an expected $155.
