New Balance’s classic 574 model is having a bit of a renaissance right now, with the Boston brand overhauling the vintage model with plenty of new styles and colorways, like this week’s announcement of the “History Class” collection.

The New Balance 574 was the brand’s first-ever lifestyle, debuted in 1988 to compete with their own 990 series. Set strategically at a lower price point, the 574 quickly became a success as both a running and casual sneaker, and still stands today as one of New Balance’s most important silhouettes in the brand’s history. This week, the Boston manufacturing brand unveiled a new iteration of the 574, subtitled Rugged, to provide a more outdoor-ready version of the beloved 574. Marked by its dense mesh base layer and rough suede outer layers as well as an extra rugged outsole, the 574 Rugged debuted in the “Workwear”-inspired colorway seen here, dressing the shoe in shades of brown with orange and navy blue accents.
