New Balance Refreshes the Retro 850 With New Pastel Colorways for Spring

The New Balance 850 is on top of the world right now. Reintroduced into the brand’s arsenal last year, the vintage has become a staple on their release calendar, returning again this month with new pastel tones in pink and green for Spring.

The New Balance 850 isn’t just any other silhouette from the Boston brand’s archives. Originally released in 1996, the ML850 was New Balance’s first big leap into more modern product for a much younger audience. The key feature of the silhouette is the removal of the famous oversized “N” logo that covered every single New Balance shoe at the time. Instead, the brand opted for a much more subtle NB script on both the tongue and heel. Combined with the 850’s sleek and wavy overlays, this made for a much more eye-catching design than anything New Balance had been working on at the time. This week, the retro runner returns in a pair of new colorways, decorating the 850 in soft, pastel hues. Both looks share the same all-over, tonal color-blocking mounted on top of a plain white midsole and a gum outsole. The first pair is blanketed in a dusty Desert Rose shade of pink, while the second comes in Mint Chalk green.
