Nike’s Air Max franchise is constantly adding new silhouettes and updated versions of classic silhouettes, building out the line with hundreds of different options. This year, they are gearing up to introduce a new women’s model, the Portal, which throws it back to designs seen around the early 2000s.
The Air Max Portal is the latest new addition to Nike’s extensive lineup of the long-standing franchise. Air technology has evolved greatly over the decades, using more and more of the patented cushioning with each successive iteration. The new model takes some design cues from earlier models from the past two decades, borrowing the wavy lines of the classic ’97 and pairing it with a chunky midsole from a previous women’s-only release. The upper is constructed from a simple mesh with quilted lines to add shape, while a leather mudguard stretches from the toes to wrap around the heels. The midsole features a high arch in the middle, with a small Air bag protruding from the heels. Three colorways have been revealed for the shoe’s launch, the first in red and black, another in shades of light blue, and finally a simple black and white palette.

Nike has yet to announce the debut of their latest all-new Air Max silhouette for women, the Portal. The model’s sleek upper and chunky midsole are straight from the early 2000s line, and will be available later this year from both the Swoosh and select retailers, for an expected price tag of $110.
