Last Fall, Nike announced their first-ever retro release of a 1999 runner, the Air Max Sunder. After months of no new information, this week we finally have an official look at the shoe. Shortening the name to Air Max SNDR, the silhouette is set to launch in its “Canyon Gold” color scheme later this Summer.

Nike’s Air max family has produced some wild silhouettes since its initial introduction in the late ’80s. The Swoosh periodically revives some of their archival styles when they see a surge in popularity, mostly via ‘moodboard’ Instagram pages, or simple by guessing which older models people would still wear in the modern day. This year, the Air Max SNDR is making its return, for the first time ever. The sleek silhouette originally released in 1999 as a remarkably stylish cross training performance sneaker, way ahead of its time. This retro release has likely been in the works since CdG released a special project featuring the model back in 2022, and this week, we have official photos of one of the first color schemes.

The “Canyon Gold” style of the SNDR was shown during Nike’s SNKRS Showcase livestream in Fall 2023. The show debuted a number of retro silhouettes and color schemes across a wide range of Nike models, giving us an early look at what to expect throughout 2024. This week, we got our first official photos of the new color scheme, along with some updated release information. The pair features a soft gradient across its nylon shroud upper, beginning in yellow at the toe and fading to orange at the heels. Black leather wraps around the base for the mudguard, while 3M plastic pieces add some flare to the perimeter.
