Nike Ending Adapt Auto-Lacing Shoes and App

Nike has officially ended its groundbreaking Adapt auto-lacing technology. This decision marks the end of an era for Nike’s self-lacing footwear, which revolutionized the sneaker industry.

The Adapt technology first gained widespread attention with the release of the Nike Mag in 2016. Inspired by “Back to the Future II,” the Nike Mag introduced the world to power-lacing shoes. Nike continued this innovation with the HyperAdapt 1.0, which was launched later in 2016. This sneaker, priced at $720, featured premium packaging and advanced self-lacing technology.

In 2019, Nike brought the Adapt technology to the basketball court with the Adapt BB 1.0. This performance shoe included remote control lacing, lighting, and power features via a companion app. Later that year, the Adapt Huarache was released, combining the classic Huarache design with modern auto-lacing technology.

The last Adapt-powered shoe to hit the market was the Adapt Auto Max in March 2020. This bulky model incorporated Air Max cushioning and hands-free lacing. Despite its innovative design, the Adapt Auto Max left circulation at the end of 2020.
